Where Does Activated Charcoal Come From?

So, where does the magical substance come from? Well, for starters, it is a form of carbon (surprise, surprise!) that is precisely prepared to have tiny pores, which help to increase its ability to absorb elements and engage in chemical reactions. Activated charcoal is created by manufacturers from petroleum, peat, wood, coal, and coconut shells. The charcoal from these products is then heated with gases, either physically or chemically, which causes it to develop tiny, internal pore-like spaces. Kinda like micro-spores.

Where Can I Get Activated Charcoal?

Because activated charcoal is produced from various beginning products, and the heating process can be done differently, the final product also varies in porosity and consistency. If you are looking for activated charcoal for personal use, you will want it to be in its finer form, which you should be able to find easily in health stores or online.

I have to put my little disclaimer here, because even though activated charcoal is amazing, we always need to err on the side of safety. Before you use activated charcoal for any health conditions, check with your doc. Also, consult with your child’s pediatrician before giving it to your child.

Also, be sure that wherever you purchase it from is reputable, especially if you buy it online. Read those reviews!

So, how about it? Do you use activated charcoal already? What for? Learn anything new? Let me know in the comments below!

Xoxo,

Bethany
